The Reshuffled Deck is a baseball simulation project using Diamond Mind Baseball beginning with the 1975 season and playing through the 1990 season with "reshuffled" rosters. Players can only play for teams they played with during this time-span. I am the general manager of every team and manage selected games throughout the season. Transactions occur by a combination of necessity and randomness, with factors such as position ratings, contract length and real-life tenure with a team playing a hand in how the cards are dealt. A boyhood obsession with baseball cards and Saturday afternoon Games of the Week continues...League Format:
- MLB of the era as it was with Seattle and Toronto joining the American League in 1977 and the addition of two as yet to be determined National League expansion teams added in 1979. Only division winner advance to the post-season. All series are Best-of-Seven
- No DH in either league. The DH though is used in Spring Training and the All-Star Game.
Season Progression:
- Each team brings a 30-31 man roster to the Grapefruit OR Cactus League for a 12-game spring training schedule
- Teams pair down to a 24 man active roster for opening day. A team can only have a maximum of 24 veteran (non-rookie) players under contract on their major and minor league rosters. There are no limits on rookie ownership. These limits must be maintained throughout the season.
- Teams play a 162 game schedule. 90 games within their division, 60 games versus other division in their league and 12 interleague games.
- The league that fairs better in Interleague Play earns home-field advantage in the World Series
- Players change teams in season via trades and waiver claims (claiming a veteran player another team is attempting to demote to the farm team).
- Following the season there is a Free Agency period. More successful teams have more points to bid on Free Agents than weaker teams. I determine which Free Agents a team goes after but the outcome is always random. The trading of expiring contracts is a major driver of player movement.
- A 4-round rookie draft follows for players who will begin play the next season. The worst team from the prior season drafts 1st overall
- A Supplemental Draft follows as teams fill out their Spring Training rosters with unsigned F/A's, undrafted rookies and other released players
